Teaching students with ADHD?
♥ I teach first grade and have a very active, distractible and loud student. He is very sweet and can be very respectful. He moved to the school I teach at about 3 months ago. He previously had been to the doctor to discuss a possibility of ADHD. Mom is not sharing the results and says she doesn't want to medicate him regardless of the outcome .which I am fine with, I am not big on medicating kids, and it is her choice anyway. He is capable of doing work independently without interruption for about 5 minutes. Academically he struggles a lot, which I am sure adds to frustration on his part as well as mine. He likes to be in charge of others (i.e. often tattles) and sometimes resorts in lying to get others in trouble. He has a very intelligent older brother and younger sister (sister is one year younger and reads about the same level as him). His parents are also going though a divorce but have told him not to discuss anything at school. But he does show many symptoms of ADHD, does anyone have any ideas, tips, tricks, sources I can go to help me help this student? I desperately want to help him achieve success. Though I know I shouldn’t bring work home, this is something that keeps me up at night. Thanks Catherine. I was in your place about 18 months ago, though I was in a very supportive school. It is always nice to see new view points and refreshing to see your views. I agree about the worksheets, my class does very few though we could probably move around a bit more. As a newer teacher myself I have been dubbed the "fun" teacher by coworkers, especially more traditional ones. Good luck with your future work it sounds like you will make a great teacher. What is an add/adhd test?
♥ In order for me to join the army, I have to go see a psychiatrist and take a add/adhd evaluation test. What is this?Ideas for youth worker session: child with ADHD?
♥ what would you do with a child with ADHD to improve their behavior?Tips for helping a child with ADHD?
♥ I am almost certain that my younger 8 year old sister (there is a 12 year difference between us) has ADHD. I have done a lot of research and compared her behavior to those of a typical child with ADHD and she matches very closely with the description. The problem is my father refuses to get her tested. He believes that it will not help or change anything. I baby sit for her often and I help her with her homework often as well. It is extremely difficult to get her to concentrate on what she is doing and it is affecting her in school and is extremely frustrating for me. What should take her 1 hour to do ends up being a 3 hour process. She has numerous note sent home from the teachers about her inattentive behavior as well. She is a good kid and she is very smart and I hate to see this become a bad problem for her. Does anyone have any tips on how I can help her focus on her homework or other tasks that she is working on?? Any tips would be great!!Signs of ADD/ADHD. How do I ask my parents?
♥ I know I've already posted this question, but I'm trying to get a good number of opinions. Many of the responses I've gotten so far have not been helpful, rather being rude and insensitive. I have always had procrastination problems, a wandering mind, and organization issues, making it hard to focus especially when doing homework. If I sit down to do homework right after school, it can take me until the late evening to finish because I get so distracted. I am uncomfortable sitting still, and this even becomes a problem when trying to fall asleep. I am also extremely irritable; small frustrations can make me extremely upset, and I end up crying over little things. I never thought about this up until recently, but a friend of mine who has ADD/ADHD brought up that I might have it. At first I thought that it was ridiculous--I am a straight-A student (and have always been), and I was never what most would call a "problem child". The other day (when I was supposed to be doing homework), I took an online test that estimated the chance of having ADD or ADHD. A score of 70 or over determined a high likelihood of having the disorder. I scored a 95. I know this may or may not be accurate, and I am not using it as a basis of my thinking. I just thought it might be relevant. I am now worried that this may be the problem. It would explain a lot, and I would like to know if this is the case. A diagnosis may assist me in getting help. I'm not sure how to bring the topic up to my parents or what I would do from there. If anyone has any advice, whether you know a lot about the subject or if you have ADD and/or ADHD yourself, it would mean the world to me. Thank you in advance!! Also: -If it makes a difference in your answer, I am a 15-year old girl from CA. -My grades are great and I'm very smart, which leads people to believe that I can't have the disorder; Einstein, Vincent Van Gogh, and John F. Kennedy all had ADHD.
