- Some questions frequently asked by houseowners : geometric proofs?
♥ since high school geometry is typically the first time that a student encounters a formal proof, this can obviously present some difficulties. it can also lead kids to think that two-column proof is the only kind of proof there is - yet that form of proof is almost never used by practicing mathematicians. it could be easier, if children encountered informal 'proofs' in earlier school years, and were required to justify their statements and reasoning. this of course would not be on such formal level as it is in high school, but simply a mindset of teaching mathematics where mathematical statements and truths are justified, there are explanations of where things come from, why something works - and the child also is asked to provide explanations and justifications. what is your view of formal geometric proofs?maths problem. please solve. prove that 4p^2 = q^2 3 r^2 ??

♥ i have asked teacher q's, searched the internet, and asked other people in my class. i just can't understand! i will think of a statement that is next in the line and then i erase it because i don't have a reason to put it there (in the reason side of the proof) i studied my vocab but i still don't understand! i'm literally crying right now because i'm so frustrated. algebra was so much easier. i have a c- in geometry and we are probably taking a test soon and its probably in a couple days. if i fail this one like i did the last one (got a d on it) i will fail the class. the proofs are the only thing keeping my grade down! it's so confusing! i just guess on most problems because each problem i have thats a proof (geometric proofs only, algebra proofs are easy) is so confusing and hard and i stick with each proof problem for like 30 minutes-1hour until i get so fed up with it that i just give up and write something down. i'm doing very well in every other class but geometry is so frustrating and i cry every time i get an assn. don't suggest tutors, we can't afford any. and don't tell me how to do one, i know how to but i can never get a reason for each statement!!!!!!!.
